How Rouleur Coaching Began

The foundation of Rouleur Coaching traces back to time spent as an athlete within what was widely regarded as the premier junior and U23 development pathway in the United States through Whole Athlete/Specialized. The environment was defined by an uncommon level of professionalism, structure, and accountability, setting a standard that stood apart from other programs at the time. Just as influential was the program’s holistic philosophy—emphasizing not only physical preparation, but also athlete well-being, education, communication, and long-term development.

Many athletes who passed through that environment have gone on to shape the sport at the highest levels, including Chris Blevins, Kate Courtney, Quinn Simmons, Neilson Powless, Haley Batten, and Keegan Swenson. Being part of that cohort reinforced the understanding that effective coaching extends beyond workouts—it requires seeing the athlete as a whole person and building an environment that supports growth both on and off the bike.

That perspective continued to evolve through collegiate racing at Brevard College, one of the most respected collegiate cycling programs in the country. Competing at a high level and contributing to multiple national championship performances reinforced the value of structured team environments, shared standards, and a culture centered on progression. Success on the national stage, including U23 mountain bike national titles, further deepened an appreciation for the training processes and support systems required to perform consistently.

Coaching formally began within the Whole Athlete environment, where a strong foundation was built in training methodology, athlete communication, and long-term planning. Academic study in Exercise Science provided an additional scientific framework, allowing practical experience to be supported by evidence-based understanding. Together, these influences shaped an approach centered on recognizing the nuanced ways athletes respond to training and the importance of building plans that reflect individual needs rather than generic models.

As involvement with the Rouleur Development Team grew, the opportunity to create a coaching environment grounded in these principles naturally followed. What began as a way to support developing athletes through thoughtful, individualized guidance evolved into Rouleur Coaching—a company built on experience, education, and a clear commitment to athlete-first development.

Today, Rouleur Coaching continues to grow while maintaining the same core values that inspired its beginnings: curiosity, mentorship, and a belief in long-term progression. The addition of an assistant coach who is actively racing within the development pathway reflects a continued investment in learning and in creating opportunities for the next generation of athletes to develop both competitively and personally.

Beyond Results

While performance outcomes matter, athletes often highlight the less obvious improvements: better consistency, fewer setbacks, clearer understanding of training, and increased confidence in their process.

This focus on development is what allows results to follow—often beyond what athletes initially expected.

Clarity in Training

Athletes gain a clear understanding of why they are doing the work—not just what to do each day. Training has purpose, progression, and context, which reduces guesswork and builds confidence in the process.

Consistency Without Burnout

Rather than cycling between peaks and setbacks, athletes learn how to train consistently over time. Load is managed carefully, allowing progress to accumulate while minimizing interruptions from fatigue or injury.

Adaptability & Self-Awareness

Athletes develop a stronger sense of how their body responds to training stress. This awareness allows them to communicate more effectively, adjust when needed, and take ownership of their development.

Long-Term Confidence

Over time, athletes gain confidence not just in their fitness, but in their ability to train intelligently and sustainably. This confidence carries forward—across seasons, disciplines, and changing goals.
